Jameson Hsu on MochiAds
To Mochi or Not to Mochi?
By Jameson Hsu, CEO, Mochi Media
Right now Flash developers have a bunch of options. Sponsorships, licensing, hosted or owner-operated sites, advertising, on and on. It’s a bit overwhelming, actually, and from what we’ve seen there’s a lot of confusion out there. In an effort to clarify the picture, Adam has kindly asked us to weigh in on how MochiAds fit in, and we’re grateful for the opportunity to explain what we’re all about.
MochiAds are simple advertisements that we embed into games. It’s a very easy way for you to make money, because we handle everything. We also know a lot of advertisers willing to pay to get in front of Flash gamers. We track when your game is played, anywhere on the Internet, and then we send you a check. We also work hard to spread your game to get as many plays as possible.
Not a bad deal.
Basically, there are three key things you should know about MochiAds:
MochiAds and sponsorships don’t have to be mutually exclusive
Contrary to popular belief, many well-known sponsors welcome our ads. (Kongregate, for example, sponsors many games that include them.) And because of our wide-reaching distribution, including MochiAds can benefit sponsors, because the more people who play your game, the more traffic will be driven back to the sponsor site. We also think that MochiAds can help you negotiate better deals, e.g. you might tell a hesitant sponsor that you’ll accept a lower sponsor price if your game includes MochiAds. So go ahead and negotiate a deal that works for you, and don’t sell yourself short. Talented professional athletes have more than one source of income, right? If you build a great game, you should too.
We help spread your game all over the Internet
We have an entire team of experts who focus on getting your game into every corner of the Internet. Every day we’re signing new deals with big sites looking for great games, and we’ll make sure they see yours. That means more game play for you, and, as we mentioned above, additional click-throughs to drive more traffic to either you or a sponsor’s site.
There’s no risk in including MochiAds, and you might be sorry if you don’t Enabling your game to run MochiAds is free and doesn’t require a contract, and we’ve made it super flexible in the following ways:
Essentially we’ve made it very easy to change the settings once MochiAds is installed, but if you set your game loose without it and the game takes off like a bandit, there’s nothing you can do....and that would really suck.
With MochiAds installed you have options. Without MochiAds you don’t.
And that’s really it.
The revenue side of the Flash game industry is on the verge of exploding. No one knows exactly how it’s going to unfold and just how far it will go, but we know that the eCPMs we’re seeing now are just the tip of the iceberg. The people writing the checks, however, are dependent on you to make it happen. Without talented developers, there is no industry, period. Remember that! You are the star of the show, so why not check out all your options before locking yourself into a contract you might regret? If your game is good, you hold the cards when it comes to negotiations, because no one is going to turn down a really good game. (And if they do, they probably won’t be around for long, so who would want to work with them anyway?)
The bottom line is that there is a big pie in the oven right now, and we think you deserve a very satisfying slice. Eat up!
